It’s been a while. For some of us, the idea of having a holiday is pretty much what helps us get through much of the year. The very well-off among us do it perhaps three or four times a year. However, during the coronavirus pandemic, we’ve been stuck in our own little worlds for 18 months or more, and the pressure is beginning to tell.

Fortunately, the restrictions that were brought in to help manage the pandemic are starting to ease, and you may well be planning your next holiday, and that feeling alone will have set your heart soaring.

So, where are you heading? If you are heading to the Big Apple, New York, then you must be raring to get going. The city that never sleeps has so much to offer, and it’s a location that never fails to deliver.

There are many reasons to travel to New York, even for those who have been on countless occasions, and if one of the main reasons enticing you to the city is its cuisine, then you won’t be disappointed.

To help you make the right decisions in NYC because no one wants to waste a holiday evening in a restaurant that dampens your vacation buzz, here’s a list of the five most amazing culinary hotspots in town.

7 Amazing Restaurants in New York You Should Definitely Visit:

1. Le Jardinier

When it comes to a restaurant that delivers on both the level of the style of its decor AND the quality of its menu, you won’t find many better options in the New York area than Le Jardinier.

This establishment, on Lexington Avenue, is simply gorgeous. The look and feel are the work of designer Joseph Dirand, and every aspect is on point. From the restaurant furniture, in tantalizing grass green, to the multitude of plants and vegetation surrounding the large marble halls. This place is an Instagram influencers dream. Oh, and the food isn’t bad either!

By the way – it’s temporarily closed, but as you’ll see on their social media – they are reopening very soon…

2. Sushi Nakazawa

In a city with more than its fair share of upscale sushi restaurants, Sushi Nakazawa is at least a little bit more reasonable than some pricey establishments. The food here is to die for, and the atmosphere is reserved, peaceful, and the overall experience in this West Village eatery is simply divine.

The menu is frequently changing, offering a good reason to go more than once on your trip, especially if you happen to be a big fan of sushi delivered by a master, as it is by this dream of a restaurant.

3. Scarr’s Pizza

If you want to eat good pizza in New York, then you’ll not be short of options. When it comes to quality pizza served in a pizzeria that oozes 1960s nostalgia, then Scarr’s is the place to visit. Its wood-paneling and neon beer signs are good for show, but they’d be irrelevant if it weren’t for the outstanding pizza these guys serve.

Situated in the Lower East Side neighborhood, you should definitely take a trip to sample the pizzas on offer from long-time owner Scarr Pimentel; you won’t regret it!

4. Cote

If it’s a steak experience you are after, then look no further than Cote, a Korean steakhouse run by Michelin-starred Simon Kim. The food on offer here is out of this world, and you should come prepared, and be prepared, we mean, don’t eat anything for hours before your arrival. You’re going to need the room.

It’s a reasonably priced joint and one where the range will keep you guessing. We’d suggest giving the Butcher’s Feast a go and expect more than a few Instagrammable moments in this well-designed and lit restaurant.

5. Dagon

This place is pitched as serving food from “Somewhere in the Mediterranean,” and that’s the sort of vagueness we can live with, especially when you consider the exquisite menu they offer at this Upper West Side restaurant.

Impeccably designed, with wrap-around bars and high ceilings, Dagon offers some truly inspiring dishes. There’s a lot of fish on the menu, and their chicken liver mousse is truly sublime, and did we mention their cocktails? Basically, Dagon offers an array of delights, and we simply can’t get enough of them.

6. Peri-Peri Grill House

If you like your chicken, and we mean really like your chicken, then you should take a trip to Park Slope and check out the Peri Peri Grill House. Depending on how much heat you can take, and that’s all measured relatively on the “peri scale,” you’ll find a variety of dishes that will cement your love of chicken.

If you want a chicken dish that packs a spicy punch, then you’ll find it here, impress your traveling friends with just how much you can take. Similarly, for those with more delicate palettes, you’ll find milder dishes that are no less delicious. Their sides are also gorgeous but don’t forget why you came here! That’s to eat the best chicken in town.

7. Rezdora

Now, if you are a fan of Italian cuisine, then there truly isn’t a better location in NYC than Rezdora, and if you are on holiday, you’ll need to make your reservation with plenty of time to spare in order to avoid disappointment.

Situated in glorious Flatiron, these guys are serious about their food. Book the regional pasta tasting for a nice grounding in tasting, and though it’s not exactly inexpensive, you won’t regret it. We guarantee, long after you’ve returned home, you’ll still fondly look back at your visit to this glorious restaurant.

These are just a sample of the fraction of the great restaurants that await you on your trip to New York. It would be fair to say that culinarily speaking, NYC is, without doubt, one of the best cities to get a belly full. Indeed, you’ll find it hard to pack in that many restaurants on your first trip, so we recommend you come straight back once you’ve completed this initial sojourn.
