Romantic Adventures: Best Outdoor Markets in NYC

Brooklyn markets

Inspired by a member of our oM team who recently joined howaboutwe.com, we decided to explore date ideas around the city and share our best tips in a comprehensive guide to “Romantic Adventures” in NYC. This is the final entry in a series of nine guides.

On the Market
For effortless romance, head to the market.

Sample your way through honey, pickles, ciders and wines (not necessarily in that order), then take your pick of cheese, bread, fruits, veggies and something to sip at the nearest park and be the envy of passerby. Just remember to BYO serving ware, bottle opener, tote and blanket. If that’s still too much work, opt for a prepared lunch at Smorgasburg, Moore Street Market, Brooklyn Flea, DeKalb Market or Arthur Avenue Market.

Here are a few of our favorite market-park pairings:

1. McCarren Park Greenmarket and McCarren or McGorlick Park (ten more minutes of walking buys you more trees, fewer hipsters).

2. Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket and Prospect Park: Brooklyn’s grandest greenmarket for its grandest park.

3. Fort Greene Park Greenmarket and Fort Greene Park: Picnic amongst chestnut trees and brownstones.

4. Added Value Farm at Governors Island farmstand and Governors Island Picnic Point: Bike the island and volunteer at the farm to make a day of it. Manhattan is permissible if you can enjoy a Union Square Greenmarket lunch in Gramercy Park. Click here for more beautiful picnic spots.
