In the Green Light: Celebrities Crack (Serious) Jokes About Saving the Planet

The super stars of Hollywood and New York had an eco-friendly spring in their step last night at 583 Park Avenue, where the Natural Resources Defense Council held its 11th annual “Forces for Nature” benefit. While the 1924-erected church doubled as the house of Green, honoring the environmental leadership of clothing designer Stella McCartney and Discovery Communications CEO David Zaslav, the guests came with plenty of conservational quips that helped lighten the mood (and our carbon footprint).

Alec Baldwin, actor in 30 Rock and host of the evening: “I drive a Prius in Los Angeles, which I call the flying soda can. Because it’s a very small, kinda tinny car, you know what I mean. I don’t always feel…it’s not my idea of a car. I do eat organic food, all that stuff. And I ride my bike a lot, walk as much as possible.”

Diane Von Furstenberg, fashion designer: “My building is geothermal and has a green roof terrace.”

Barry Diller, CEO, IAC: “The greenest thing I do is probably to not any longer emit bad gases.”

Graydon Carter
, editor-in-chief, Vanity Fair: “I take a canoe instead of a motorboat.”

Seth Meyers, actor, Saturday Night Live:  “When I go off Manhattan, I go to Yankee Stadium and that place in Brooklyn everyone goes to.”
