What: 7th annual BK Fashion Weekend, Fall/Winter ‘09 Collections
Where: Brooklyn School for Career Development & Brooklyn Technical High School Field
When: April 10-12; Doors open at 6p.m., Shows begin at 7p.m. After party starts at 9 p.m.
Why: Recession or not, the Brooklyn Style Foundation knows that New York fashionistas will always pay attention to the latest trends. To prove it has its pulse on emerging designers, the BKSF will host a national and international fashion showcase during this year’s event. “The whole weekend will feel like one great fashion show from around the world,” said Rick Davy, creative director of BK Fashion Weekend.
The theme for this fall collection, “There’s No Fashion ‘Til Brooklyn,” means there’s plenty left to swoon over, even after mainstream clothing makers have shown collections in L.A., New York, Paris, and Milan. Look out for the trio of burgeoning designers who hail from the respected Paris Showroom Group 22 V (Paris Vestiaire). In true Brooklyn style, each show will be accompanied by a mélange of musical styles representing the borough’s diverse sounds. Guests can expect a mix of funk, hip-hop, and small-band jazz to rock the night away from the opening of the show to the catwalk to the after party. No. Sleep. Till. Brooklyn.
Cost: Free. 100 tickets will be given out on a per night lottery basis. To enter, visit BK Fashion Weekend RSVP.
How to get there: Take the B/D/R/N/4/5 train heading downtown exiting at Atlantic/Pacific Avenue. Head east on Atlantic, make a left at Clermont Avenue. (718.684.4164, bkfashionweekend.com)
