What: Steel Train headlines in New Jersey
Where: Maxwell’s, 1039 Washington Street, Hoboken
When: Thursday, December 27, 8:30 pm
Why: High-energy performances and hunky rockers. The best band you probably never heard of: New Jersey’s very own quintet, Steel Train, has been playing psychedelic licks with a blend of rock and roll, pop, alternative, and classic rock for a few years under the radar. Their Trampoline album is in stores now. Check out their music online at myspace.com/steeltrain. Try something new and not (yet) mainstream, and get to know Hobo. (Stay tuned for a Hoboken Mini-Guide.)
Cost: $10, www.ticketweb.com
How to get there: By train; take the PATH Train to Hoboken from 33rd St., 23rd St., or 9th St., all along 6th Avenue. There is also a stop at Christopher Street, west of Hudson Street. Make sure you get on a train on the Jersey bound side that says Hoboken. There is only one stop in Hoboken. It is the stop after Christopher Street. From the Hoboken PATH station, you can cab it for $3, take any bus that goes up Washington Street for $1 (exit at 11th and Washington), or walk (approx. 12-15 minutes). To walk to the club, head one block north to Newark Street. Make a left onto Newark and go 2 blocks west to Washington Street. Make a right on Washington Street and proceed 11 blocks north to the near right corner of 11th and Washington.
