Broadway is a New York City institution. Like Fred and Ginger, peanut butter and jelly and milk and cookies, it’s tough to imagine one without the other.
There’s just one little problem and that’s the sky-high cost of tickets. For fans of the Great White Way who live life on a budget, a holiday gift is coming your way.
Each Monday at 5pm from November 11 to December 9, The Shops at Columbus Circle in Manhattan will present Broadway Under the Stars, free performances by the actual casts of hit Broadway musicals. While not the entire musicals, the events feature songs, discussions and pure entertainment. No tickets, no lines, just show up. It’s indoors so it’s warm and dry. Head for the second-floor mezzanine and get ready to hear the cast of hit shows such as Dear Evan Hansen, Head Over Heels, Kinky Boots, The Phantom of the Opera, School of Rock, Waitress and Wicked.
As an added bonus, The shops at Columbus Circle get really decked out for the holiday season, with a centerpiece of 12 massive, illuminated stars hanging from the 100-foot-high ceilings. The stars change colors so it’s dazzling and dramatic.
When the show is over, get a jump on your holiday shopping at one of the dozens of retail outlets and enjoy a priceless view of Central Park.
