What: World Football Challenge
When: July 24, 8:00 p.m.
Where: M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore, MD
Why: The World Football Challenge is bringing some of the biggest squads from Europe and Mexico to the US for a round-robin tournament of six exhibition matches this summer, including a game between AC Milan and Chelsea at M&T Bank Stadium. It’s a rare opportunity to see some of the world’s best players in the US, particularly for soccer fans whose last look at European teams was during the 2009 UEFA Champion’s League Final in May.
Both sides are stacked with talent, including many athletes that played for their countries this summer during the Confederations Cup. While starting rosters for the friendly match-up could change, AC Milan will likely bring along David Beckham (on loan from the LA Galaxy) and Brazilian super-star Ronaldinho, as Chelsea counters with John Terry and Michael Ballack, the respective captains of the English and German national teams.
Cost: Tickets start at $35, plus Ticketmaster’s “convenience charge” of $10.25.
How to get there: Both Amtrak and BoltBus stop at Baltimore’s Penn Station, at 1515 N. Charles St. Check schedules and fares at amtrak.com and boltbus.com. The MTA’s light rail and buses both serve M&T Bank Stadium, near the Inner Harbor at 1101 Russell St.
