What: Winter Antiques Pop-Up Market Dumbo
Where: Um, Dumbo, Brooklyn
When: Saturdays and Sundays, beginning January 10 through March, 11 a.m.–6 p.m
Why: In the time it takes Joe the street vendor to pile on the meat in your gyro, something somewhere in New York City will have sprouted. This month until March, in the outer borough of Brooklyn, the antique hounds and vintage collectors will brave the cold for the Winter Antiques Pop-Up Market Dumbo, crafted by Brooklyn Flea founders Eric Demby and Brownstoner blogger Jonathan Butler.
When Demby and Butler started the Flea early last year they had no idea it would grow into such a phenomenon. In the summer of 2008, they began the search for indoor space for a winter market and eventually found a prime corner location at 76 Front Street. In addition to diggin’ the Dumbo setting, the two sought out a space geographically more accessible for market goers coming from areas like Manhattan, Hoboken, and Jersey City.
Expect “quality affordable antiques that won’t be subject to outdoor elements,” said Demby. The space is much smaller than Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, but that won’t decrease the diverse array of items (think of the treasured relics you might find in your grandparent’s attic) that the 25 vendors, new and returning, will be selling: 1968 Parisian posters, old frames, aged phonograph record players, vintage jewelry, mid-century American chairs, Scandinavian mod furniture, and men’s clothes from the 50’s through 70’s.

How to get there: Take the F or any downtown train that connects to it to York Street, in Brooklyn. Exit York at Jay Street.
