Review: Rockridge Market Hall

5655 College Avenue
Oakland, CA 94618

The butcher, the baker… There’s no candlestick maker at this gorgeous European-style market, but they do have a flower shop and a fish shop. That’s to say nothing of the fine purveyors of pasta, produce, wine and coffee who also call this gastronome heaven home. Begun by three siblings as a cure for the common supermarket, Market Hall is a beautiful store with eight individual flower and food shops selling the best and freshest in all things food.

Head to the Pasta Shop for homemade pastas, artisan cheeses and other specialty eats, then pick up a great bottle of wine to go with it at Paul Marcus Wines. Marin Sun Farms provides fresh, quality and consciously raised meats, while Hapaku Fish Shop provides not just “sustainable” fish but sustainable seafood advice. Top it all off with some house-baked treats from Market Hall Bakery and coffee from Peaberry’s Coffee and Tea. And don’t forget a centerpiece: Bloomies flowers sells gorgeous blooms from local growers. Dinner is served.
