A long-time Berkeley tradition, Saul’s is both the past and future of the Jewish deli. The bustling joint serves up all the deli classics, but these foods are sourced locally, from farm fresh produce to sustainable seafood from Monterey Fish Company. That means, folks, that if your gefilte fish is not in season, it won’t be on the menu—an issue for the traditional deli crowd, but we say, “bravo.” Even the Jewish deli standbys, Dr. Brown’s sodas, have been replaced with house-made, artisanal (and high-fructose-corn-syrup-free) versions.
The deli also holds a wide variety of events, from a Hanukkah latke tent to food panels with the likes of Michael Pollan.
