Dumbo’s Answer to Tribeca: Wallabout Film Festival

UPDATE: The location has changed from Brooklyn to Chelsea. Please see more details below.

What: The Film Fest That’s About It All (or About a Wall)

Where: Changed from Pochron Studios to Taxter Spengermann Gallery

When: Thursday, April 23 at 8 p.m.

Why: In case you haven’t heard it in the past five minutes, we’re in a recession. Tribeca may be cool, but the festival will cost you $15 a ticket (more when you buy online) plus $25 or so if you want to hear the “experts” talk about it. The Pratt Institute-produced Wallabout Film Festival, on the other hand, is screening many short films, both fiction and non-fiction, for (wait for it) FREE—plus wine and nibbles. And it’s part of a collective work, bridging creatives and community, which means there will be some interesting discussion going on, also free. And, who are we kidding, we all want to know what Wallabout is all about.

Cost: Free

How to get there: Take the 4,5 or 6 train to 14th Street, Union Square. (123 East 12th at Taxter Spengermann Gallery, info@taxterandspengemann.com)
