Cool Deals: 7 Winter Getaways Near NYC

Harrahs Pool

If you’re looking for an easy, budget-friendly (and car-free!) adventure this season, consider one of these seven well-valued winter getaways near NYC.

Niagara Falls, Ontario | Nigara Falls Hilton
The Package:
Couples Adventure Package in a Deluxe Falls View Suite
The Perks:
In addition to those views of a spectacularly frozen Niagara Falls—named one of the top 52 places to see in 2014 by The New York Times—seen from your newly renovated suite on the 30th floor, there is an in-room fireplace and jacuzzi. The package comes with two adult passes for Journey Behind the Falls, Niagara’s Fury, and White Water Walk, a full buffet breakfast voucher for two, $65 dinner voucher for the rooftop restaurant, and shuttle bus service. The possible downsides are no free in-room wi-fi—though maybe one of your New Year’s resolutions is to unplug more?—and the thunderous gushing of water right outside your window, which could result in a midnight visit to the loo.
The Price:
Good through April 14, 2015, you’ll pay $264/night for a room with a view. Based on double occupancy. For more package options, visit the website above.
How to get there:
Take Amtrak’s Empire Service line from Penn Station to Niagara Falls. Once you are in town, a Trolley can get you most anywhere you want to go, but the town’s manageable size makes walking a fine option. (Hilton Niagara, 6361 Fallsview Blvd., Niagara Falls, ON L2G3V9, Canada, 905.354.7887)

Cape Elizabeth, Maine | Inn by the Sea
The Package:
“Taste of Maine”

How to get there: Consult our Portland Public Transportation Guide. From the train station in Portland, a cab into Cape Elizabeth’s town takes approximately 30 minutes and costs around $30. Or rent a hybrid. (Inn by the Sea, 40 Bowery Beach Road, Cape Elizabeth, ME, 207.799.3134)
