Off the Ferry: Things to Do in Tiburon

Named for the leopard sharks that swim along its shorelines (“tiburon” is Spanish for “shark”), the the tiny, well-to-do hamlet of Tiburon is located just a short ferry ride across the Bay from San Francisco and offers a myriad of relaxing things to do.

Here are five things to do in Tiburon:

1. Browse or buy at Nasimiyu Designs: A beautiful little shop featuring hundreds of intricately beaded African handicrafts. (80D Main St., nasimiyudesigns.com)

2.  Step back in time at the Railroad and Ferry Depot Museum, which documents Tiburon’s history as a railroad post and port town. (920 Paradise Drive, Railroad and Ferry Depot Museum)

3. Support a good cause (and your brain) at Corner Books, the volunteer-run bookstore that donates proceeds to the Belvedere-Tiburon Library. (1550 Tiburon Blvd, Corner Books)

4. Take in some sun and good taste on the deck at Sam’s Café, known for its seafood and amazing views. (27 Main St., Samscafe.com)

5. Rent a bike at Demo Sport, and take a ride around the island. (1690 Tiburon Blvd, Demosport.com)
