Description
It’s a family affair at this 20-acre farm by the sea—and it has been for more than 40 years. But here the trees (they have Douglas Firs, Monterey Pines, Sequoias, Incense Cedars, Arizona Cypresses, and Swift Silvers) are only part of the draw. There’s also a bonfire for marshmallow roasting, tractor rides, and all the fixin’s for wreath-making (including some experts on hand to give tips). That’s why we’ve nominated a visit to Rancho Siempre Verde as one of the best Christmas activities in the Bay Area.
Don’t forget to bring a picnic lunch. The hilltop picnic area overlooking the ocean is not to be missed—nor are its 40-foot-tall giant swings, good for you and a buddy or two.
And they don’t call it the “always green ranch” for nothing. The trees at Rancho Siempre Verde are coppiced or stump cultured. Translation: When cutting down your tree you’ll leave a few of the bottom branches (there are plenty of friendly staff on hand to help with this), which allows another tree to grow from the same stump.
Trees cost between $85-$105, which includes cutting and tying your tree, plus all the marshmallows you can eat.
Directions
You’ll have to drive (to transport your tree). Green it by making sure your car is tuned and all extra cargo is removed, so you burn as little fuels as possible.
