Ever squinted into a pair of binoculars trying to get a good look at a sea otter in the bay? Well, ditch the binoculars and hop in a kayak to get up close and personal with all of the wildlife that the Monterey Bay has to offer. In a kayak, you won’t need binoculars to spot seals, pelicans or even sea otters.
There are two ways in which you can enjoy kayaking on the bay. If you’re more interested in exploring on your own, you can rent your own kayak for $30 a day and keep paddling for as long as you’d like. Rentals at Adventures by the Sea begin at 9 a.m. and close at sunset. All gear and paddling instructions are included with the kayak rental.
However, if you’d like a more comprehensive experience, consider taking a kayak tour with a guide. The guides serve to add extra information about the surrounding area. Tours are offered at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and are $60 per person. The tours last for two hours.
Kayaks can be rented from numerous vendors at Cannery Row and Lovers Point. Adventures by the Sea has kayak rentals available at Cannery Row, Breakwater Cove, and Lovers Point shops.
Directions
Take Caltrain to the San Jose Caltrain Station. From there, walk to Cahill/Diridon Station and take Bus 79 towards Monterey.
