Description
If you’ve been looking for the most popular dog beach in San Diego, look no further. Founded in 1972, unassuming Ocean Beach (also known as the “original dog beach”) is a true gem of a spot where your pooch can run to his heart’s content and you can enjoy a truly authentic beach town feel.

The beach is nestled just west of the San Diego River Floodway and northwest of downtown San Diego, and has made cameos in movies like Endless Summer II (featuring Rocky the Surfing Dog). And it’s lovingly maintained by the Dog Beach Committee.

At the beach’s entrance, you’ll find a wooden surf board jutting out of the ground, and across from it is a giant black paw, which functions as a sort of doggie message board.

Don’t leave without wandering through Ocean Beach, a quintessential California Beach town, replete with adorable locally owned shops and eateries.
