There&#8217;s a new bar on Essex Street in the Lower East Side called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/twobitsarcade\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Two-Bit&#8217;s Retro Arcade<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/barcadebrooklyn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Barcade<\/a> in Brooklyn is dog-friendly and has great craft beers and 25-cent arcade classics.&#8221;<br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/offmetro.com\/ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/people.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-34605 aligncenter lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" data-src=\"https:\/\/offmetro.com\/ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/people.jpg\" alt=\"New Yorkers\" width=\"326\" height=\"163\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-34605 aligncenter lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/offmetro.com\/ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/people.jpg\" alt=\"New Yorkers\" width=\"326\" height=\"163\" srcset=\"https:\/\/offmetro.com\/ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/people.jpg 650w, https:\/\/offmetro.com\/ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/people-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/offmetro.com\/ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/people-50x25.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 326px) 100vw, 326px\" \/><\/noscript><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have discovered Metro-North so I like to take the train to get away, most recently to <a href=\"https:\/\/offmetro.com\/ny\/2009\/02\/09\/cold-spring-ny-romantic-weekend-getaway\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cold Spring<\/a>. I love going to all the thrift stores, art galleries and antique shops. It&#8217;s also near the <a href=\"https:\/\/offmetro.com\/ny\/2011\/07\/06\/russel-wright-design-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Russel Wright Design Center<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emily: <\/strong>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/offmetro.com\/ny\/2008\/09\/07\/woodstock-ny-in-search-of-the-last-hippy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Woodstock, NY<\/a> is my favorite romantic getaway. The town is very quaint with areas for hiking and sledding. There\u2019s a great farm-to-table brunch place called<a href=\"http:\/\/www.oriole9.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Oriole 9<\/a> in the center of town.\u201d<\/p>\n<dl id=\"attachment_34617\">\n<dt><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter lazyload\" title=\"Jay Peak\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" data-src=\"https:\/\/offmetro.com\/ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/8403327104_8f258f2e2c_z.jpg\" alt=\"Jay Peak\" width=\"276\" height=\"184\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter lazyload\" title=\"Jay Peak\" src=\"https:\/\/offmetro.com\/ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/8403327104_8f258f2e2c_z.jpg\" alt=\"Jay Peak\" width=\"276\" height=\"184\"><\/noscript><\/dt>\n<\/dl>\n<p>\u201cI love to go skiing at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jaypeakresort.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jay Peak<\/a> in Vermont. We rented a car and drove there last year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sarah<\/strong>: \u201cMy favorite winter getaway is <a href=\"https:\/\/offmetro.com\/ny\/2008\/05\/15\/rock-climbing-in-the-gunks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Paltz<\/a>. There are some good restaurants and bars and it\u2019s a fun place to explore. You can take Metro North to Poughkeepsie and then take a bus straight into New Paltz.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo enjoy the great outdoors I walk around <a href=\"http:\/\/nysparks.com\/parks\/127\/details.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnewaska State Park<\/a> or Mohonk Preserve near New Paltz. And I\u2019ve always wanted to do <a href=\"https:\/\/offmetro.com\/ny\/2009\/04\/28\/hiking-breakneck-ridge-hudson-highlands\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Breakneck Ridge<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_34615\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-34615\" style=\"width: 249px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-34615 lazyload\" title=\"Spritzenhaus\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" data-src=\"https:\/\/offmetro.com\/ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/380932_285315944849121_1249284993_n.jpg\" alt=\"Spritzenhaus\" width=\"249\" height=\"364\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-34615\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-34615 lazyload\" title=\"Spritzenhaus\" src=\"https:\/\/offmetro.com\/ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/380932_285315944849121_1249284993_n.jpg\" alt=\"Spritzenhaus\" width=\"249\" height=\"364\"><\/noscript> <em>Spritzenhaus<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nDiane<\/strong>: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/offmetro.com\/ny\/2010\/01\/13\/hunter-mountain-review-ny-ski\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hunter Mountain<\/a> is good for a romantic winter getaway. They have ziplining and skiing and darling little lodges with Jacuzzis. It\u2019s about two and a half hours upstate [in Hunter, NY] and easy to reach by bus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cMy favorite cozy spots in Williamsburg are Two Door Tavern, which has a fireplace, and <a href=\"http:\/\/union-pool.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Union Pool<\/a>, which has one in their backyard. There\u2019s also a German beer garden in Greenpoint called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spritzenhaus33.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Spritzenhaus<\/a> that has a fireplace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor a quick outdoor retreat, I go to the Cloisters in Fort Tryon Park.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy favorite bed and breakfast is a place called <a href=\"http:\/\/motelmiami.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Miami Motel<\/a> in the Finger Lakes. It\u2019s really cute and run by a couple. They have huge rooms with hot tubs. There are several wineries in the area and most are open during the winter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charlie,<strong> Chef at Painted Lady, American Fare<\/strong><\/strong>: \u201cRiegelsville, Pennsylvania is my favorite winter getaway. I do a lot of biking, as long as it\u2019s not too cold, and cooking. There are lots of rural farms and you can buy food directly from the farms, like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/cherishcreamery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cherish&nbsp;Creamery<\/a>. Most have their own markets. Riegelsville is a National Historic District, home to 900 people and the Roebling Bridge [built by Brooklyn Bridge designer Washington Roebling].\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Raphael<\/strong>: \u201cDuring winter I usually go upstate to Westchester and dine at different restaurants. It has a great museum called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.diabeacon.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dia: Beacon<\/a>. Nantucket is also nice during the off season\u2014very quiet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nicholas<\/strong>: \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mollysshebeen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Molly\u2019s Bar <\/a>on 3rd Avenue at 22nd street has a fireplace. Also <a href=\"http:\/\/centralbarnyc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Central Bar<\/a> near Astor Place is a great place to warm up. My wife made me go hiking in Cold Spring once when I was hungover. But it was a very nice town.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deanna<\/strong>: \u201cMy favorite winter activity is staying warm. Also ice skating. Not at Rockefeller Center or Central Park, but rather down by the Standard Hotel. They put up a rink. There\u2019s a restaurant in Manhattan called Crispo and in the back room they have a fireplace.
