\nThe general anxiety about notoriously great places is that they\u2019ll fail to live up to their lofty reputations, but Yoshi’s continues to impress after almost 40 years. Originally a 25-seat North Berkeley sushi restaurant (opened in 1973 by three first- and second-generation Japanese students), Yoshi’s has grown to become an award-winning hot spot that has hosted such jazz royalty as Harry Connick, Jr. and Dizzy Gillespie.<\/p>\n

Yes, there is a San Francisco outpost, but it’s a special treat to take the ferry over to Jack London Square for some great music and eats on the water. And speaking of food, the menu at Yoshi’s is as top-notch as its jazz.\u00a0Known for creating complex flavor pairings, executive Chef Shotaro ‘Sho’ Kamio serves up modern Japanese fare, using fresh seasonal ingredients, traditional spices, and the occasional surprise.<\/p>\n
