The Southern Pacific Railroad once ran this route, servicing the coast and Cannery Row when sardine business was big. Today it&#8217;s a paved path hugging the coast and passing Fisherman&#8217;s Wharf, Cannery Row, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and much more.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors of all ages and adventure levels can explore the flat path\u2014on foot, on bike or surrey, or on in-line skates (there are a variety of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seemonterey.com\/things-to-do\/attractions-results\/?listsearch_submit=1&amp;listingGetAll=0&amp;subcatID=227&amp;regionID=0&amp;listing_keyword=rentals&amp;submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">rental companies<\/a> throughout Monterey. And if the water beckons, you can always take to the kayak, stand-up paddleboard, or surfboard.<\/p>\n<p>Either way, watch out for harbor seals, sea lions, otters, and birds, and pack a picnic to enjoy on one of the trails many\u00a0vistas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Directions<\/strong><br \/>\nTake <a href=\"http:\/\/www.caltrain.com\/\">Caltrain<\/a> to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.caltrain.com\/\">San Jose Caltrain Station<\/a>. From there, walk to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vta.org\/\">Cahill\/Diridon Station<\/a> and take <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vta.org\/\">Bus 79<\/a>\u00a0towards Monterey.
