\nThe waters just outside the San Francisco Bay are teeming with wildlife\u2014which means that San Franciscans don’t have to go far for a little\u00a0National Geographic-<\/em>style adventure. Enter SF Bay Whale Watching, the company that provides a wide array of boat expeditions.<\/p>\n

While the company is careful to point out that nature is unpredictable, the vast knowledge of their crew means you’re likely to see a whole host of natural wonders, from seals to puffins to the occasional white shark. Depending on the time of year, the company runs expeditions out to the\u00a0wild Gulf of the Farallones and the\u00a0Farallon Islands<\/a>\u00a0or up the unspoiled coast toward\u00a0Point Reyes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tours start promptly at 8 a.m. and don\u2019t return until around 4 p.m. While some dolphins and some whale species can be spotted year-round,\u00a0peak whale-sighting times are usually July through October.<\/p>\n

Be sure to wear warm, waterproof clothing (including a hat and gloves) as it gets cold on the water. You are also in charge of bringing your own food and beverages. Call in advance to reserve a spot. Tours run about $110 per person.<\/p>\n
