While we&#8217;re fond of fun quick spins around San Francisco now and then, there&#8217;s something so rewarding about a long scenic ride, especially one that leads to an exciting overnight destination instead of your front door.<\/p>\n<p>Here are our picks for the five <strong>best bike vacations near San Francisco.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ride:<\/strong> Avenue of the Giants\u00a0|\u00a0<a title=\"Permanent link to Humboldt Redwoods State Park website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.parks.ca.gov\/?page_id=425\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Humboldt Redwoods\u00a0State Park<\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Road:<\/strong> 75 miles of paved and unpaved bike-able trail.<br \/>\n<strong>Route:<\/strong> Avenue of the Giants or Mattole Road offer easier rides, while the park&#8217;s unpaved trails provide more of a challenge.<br \/>\n<strong>Risk:<\/strong> Easy to Medium (some steep terrain)<br \/>\n<strong>Reward<\/strong>: Fly underneath the awesome beauty of the redwoods, and subsequently escape encounters with automobiles.<br \/>\n<strong>Refuel<\/strong> Stop: Hit the breaks\u00a0under a tree or at one of the park&#8217;s many picnic areas.<br \/>\n<strong>Rest Stop:\u00a0<\/strong>Pitch a tent at one of the park&#8217;s <a title=\"campsites in humboldt state park \" href=\"http:\/\/www.parks.ca.gov\/?page_id=24183\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">campsites<\/a>. The Burlington, Albee Creek, and Hidden Springs campgrounds all accommodate &#8220;hike and bike&#8221; visitors.<br \/>\n<strong>Reality Check:<\/strong> The swimming holes along the river are perfect for cooling off after a heavy ride.<br \/>\n<strong>Directions:<\/strong> Choose to drive or take the Capitol Corridor Amtrak train to Martinez, then the 6311 bus to Garberville. In Garberville, catch the the Southern Humboldt Transit Bus 11 towards Eureka (picks up at Melville and Redwood) and get off at Weott. Imagine adding to that the stunning views of the coast, the skyline, and Angel Island.<br \/>\n<strong>Refuel<\/strong> <strong>Stop<\/strong>:\u00a0Grab a low-key bite plus Bay vistas at the <a href=\"https:\/\/offmetro.com\/sf\/3149\/review-caprice-tiburo\/\">Caprice<\/a> on Paradise Road.<br \/>\n<strong>Rest Stop:<\/strong> Homebodies can easily make this one a day trip by heading back to Tiburon and catching the ferry, or treat yourself to a night in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marinhotels.com\/waters-edge-hotel\/home\">Water&#8217;s Edge Hotel<\/a>.<br \/>\n<strong>Reality Check<\/strong>: Stick to the side of the road to avoid traffic. Stop for a beach stroll (or to do some fishing) in Paradise Cay.<br \/>\n<strong>Directions:<\/strong>\u00a0Bike across the Golden Gate Bridge. You can bike back, or take the <a href=\"https:\/\/offmetro.com\/sf\/808\/blue-gold-fleet-ferry-san-francisco\/\">Blue &amp; Gold Fleet ferry<\/a> from Tiburon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ride<\/strong>:\u00a0Pope-Baldwin Bike Path\u00a0|\u00a0Lake Tahoe<br \/>\n<strong>Road<\/strong>: Paved and unpaved roads for mountain and road bikes.<br \/>\n<strong>Route<\/strong>: This path along South Shore hugs Highway 89, heading past historic Camp Richardson, Tallac Historic Site, and Baldwin Beach.<br \/>\n<strong>Risk<\/strong>: Easy (fairly flat)<br \/>\n<strong>Reward<\/strong>: Cruise along in Tahoe&#8217;s crisp air and through old growth forests, with spectacular lake views and beach side trips.<br \/>\n<strong>Refuel Stop:\u00a0<\/strong>Picnic at Fallen Leaf Lake.<br \/>\n<strong>Rest Stop:<\/strong> Relax at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tahoefiresidelodge.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tahoe Fireside Lodge<\/a>\u00a0(from $119\/night).
