Description<\/strong>
\nThe opulent building that houses The Trident was the site of many a gala, regatta, and fancy affair from the time it was built in 1898 until it was abandoned in 1927. A local Sausalito family rescued the gorgeous waterfront venue. During the ’60s and ’70s, this was the <\/em>hotspot for famed counterculture personalities from Janis Joplin to Santana.<\/p>\n

These days, with the same owners of San Francisco’s famed Buena Vista Cafe at the helm, Horizons Restaurant serves up casual California cuisine (think oysters, Crab Louis, and the like), but it’s the setting that draws the crowds. The dining room, with its wood-paneled walls and portholes, has the feel of a yacht, and the ceiling is bedecked with The Trident’s original ceiling mural by artist David Richards (who was also responsible for Janis Joplin’s notorious Porsche Cabriolet). The deck’s the place to be, though. It’s worth the wait to relax in the sun, water all around, sail boats drifting past, and the city as a backdrop.<\/p>\n
