Perched on a bluff overlooking the magical spot where the Russian River becomes the Pacific, this aptly named romantic eatery serves up a delectable menu of gourmet fish dishes. Built in 1927 as a restaurant an in for loggers and fishermen, the Sonoma Coast treasure is nothing short of extraordinary.
The website says it all. Come to River’s End for the catch of the day, farm-fresh produce, and local artisan cheeses—stay to watch the sun dip below the horizon, streaking river, ocean and sky with spectacular color. A wide range of local wines are offered in the dining room, at the redwood bar, or out on the gorgeous deck. Dishes range between $26 and $43 per entree. Call ahead (and well in advance) to reserve a coveted window table.
Make a weekend out of it by booking a cozy cabin. All five cabins overlook the coast, a couple boast cozy fireplaces, and most are set over the property’s edible flower garden. The River’s End offers a totally unplugged experience, sans Wi-Fi, television (or even cell service) in the room, so you can truly enjoy the sounds of the ocean outside your door (from $120 a night).
