Inspired by a member of our oM team who recently joined howaboutwe.com, we decided to explore date ideas around the city and share our best tips in a comprehensive guide to “Romantic Adventures” in NYC. This is the eighth in a series of nine guides.
Art You Cultured
Take a culture crawl through one of the outer borough’s many artistic neighborhoods.
1. Travel by foot or by train from ancient Egyptian and contemporary art at the Brooklyn Museum (for extra action, visit on a Target First Saturday) to happy hour (6-8pm) and free live music (usually starts at 9pm) at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) inside BAMcafé Live (select Fridays and Saturdays). Share a few plates from Roman’s daily menu (Fort Greene Italian from the owners of Diner, Marlow & Sons and Reynards) or choose your food by your wine at Stonehome Wine Bar and Restaurant before or after BAM. Brooklyn Museum: 200 Eastern Parkway, Prospect Heights BAM: 30 Lafayette Avenue, Fort Greene Roman’s: 243 DeKalb Ave, Fort Greene (No reservations. Dinner available at the bar counter.) Stonehome Wine Bar: 87 Lafayette Ave, Fort Greene
2. Avoid the MoMA swarms in favor of the museum’s experimental sister over in Long Island City’s P.S.1. (Suggested donation $10; $5 for students and free with MoMA pass.) Next, walk a few blocks to warehouse turned art studio and living graffiti collage Five Pointz. Wander around the outside, then head up to the roof for a different point of view. Sit down for quality, seasonal eats in a casual environment at LIC Market, a marketplace/restaurant with local art on display. P.S.1: 22-25 Jackson Ave. at 46th Ave, Long Island City Five Pointz: Jackson Avenue at Crane Street and Davis Street, Long Island City LIC Market: 21-52 44th Dr, near 23rd St, Long Island City
