Inspired by a member of our oM team who recently joined howaboutwe.com, we decided to explore date ideas around the city and share our best tips in a comprehensive guide to “Dating Adventures” in NYC. This is the fifth in a series of nine guides.
You Got Game
They say the couple that plays together stays together. Let the games begin.
1. Tight on funds? Take advantage of free Skee-Ball at Full Circle Bar, happy hour ‘til 9pm at R-Bar, free video games at The Commodore and even more 25-cent arcade classics at dog-friendly Barcade.
2. Head to The Gutter if you can spare $7 for a round of bowling or splurge at LEED-certified Brooklyn Bowl ($20/half hour) for some fried chicken and live music; throw a few back at the large, unpretentious bar while you wait. Full Circle Bar: 318 Grand Street, Williamsburg; Barcade: 388 Union Ave, Williamsburg; R-Bar: 451 Meeker Ave, Greenpoint; The Commodore: 366 Metropolitan Ave, Williamsburg; The Gutter: 200 N. 14th St, Williamsburg; Brooklyn Bowl: 61 Wythe Ave., Williamsburg
3. Take the short bus (they’ll pick you up at the Carroll St. F/G stop) to your one stop fun shop, Brooklyn Crab. The new harborside spot offers bocce, a full mini-golf course and cornhole(!) in one glorious shack. Brooklyn Crab: 24 Reed St at Pioneer St, Red Hook
4. If cracking crabs al fresco with beer buckets isn’t enough to keep you in one place, find more intimate post-game refreshments at home/made wine bar for small plates in a crafty accessories store; or skip over to Pok Pok Ny for a taste of Thai through Andy Ricker’s creative Portland prism. home/made Wine Bar: 293 Van Brunt St, Red Hook; Pok Pok Ny: 127 Columbia St, Red Hook
